Canadian Inline Hockey Federation Announces Strategic Participation Update for 2026 World Skate Games

LETHBRIDGE, Alta., August 30, 2026 – The Canadian Inline Hockey Federation today announced a strategic restructuring of its participation in the 2026 World Skate Games, scheduled to take place in Asunción, Paraguay. Following a comprehensive review of the organization’s financial model, program feasibility, and roster availability, the Federation has made the difficult decision to cancel its participation in the Senior Men’s, Senior and Junior Female programs for this competition cycle.

This decision follows a rigorous assessment led by the Federation’s leadership and general managers.  "Transparency is at the heart of our new organizational direction," said Dave Sehn. "While these difficult decisions regarding team cuts may feel like a failure in the short term, this focus on fiscal and operational responsibility is essential. We are making these choices now to build the long-term trust and sustainable foundation required to ensure a strong, viable future for Canadian inline hockey in the years to come."

The Federation wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to the program General Managers, Brent Hartwell (Senior Men), Kassandra Paone and Nick Rugirok (Junior/Senior Female divisions). Their tireless efforts in attempting to recruit athletes and coordinate these programs were significant, and their dedication to the growth of their respective programs is deeply valued by the organization. "While it still feels like a failure," noted Brent Hartwell, Senior Men's General Manager. "The transparency and the work being put in - I think the players will see that going forward."

The Canadian Inline Hockey Federation remains committed to its athletes and is continuing to assess the viability of its remaining programs. We appreciate the understanding of our players, families, and partners as we take these necessary steps to ensure a professional and sustainable pathway for our national team program.  Best of luck to our Junior Men as they complete and represent Canada in Paraguay in approximately 5 weeks' time.
