Roller Hockey Community Rallies Behind Jaxon Simms

For Jaxon Simms, roller hockey has always been more than just another sport. It’s the game he loves, the community he calls home, and a passion that has already taken him from Nova Scotia to some of the biggest stages in youth inline hockey.

Jaxon has been playing roller hockey since he was five years old and currently plays with the Metro Roller Hockey League in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Of all the sports he participates in, roller hockey continues to be the one he chooses first.

His passion for the game has already created some incredible memories.

In 2023, Jaxon had the opportunity to represent Canada Inline at the U12 level, competing with Pure Maple at the NARCh Finals. A year later, he made history closer to home when he represented Team Nova Scotia at the 2024 State Wars tournament in St. Louis, Missouri, as Nova Scotia participated in the event for the first time.

Along the way, Jaxon has also developed a special connection with professional roller hockey coach and goaltender Jimmy Teed. Teed is Jaxon’s favourite pro roller coach and goalie, and Jaxon looks forward to catching up with him each summer when Jimmy returns home to Nova Scotia.

Today, Jaxon and his family are facing a challenge much bigger than anything that happens on the rink.

On August 13, 2025, Jaxon was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). His treatment is expected to continue until December 19, 2027.

Through it all, his family has turned the support surrounding Jaxon into an opportunity to help others.

Team Simmer - Light the Lamp has been created as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s Light The Night Halifax event on October 18, 2026. The event brings communities together to honour those lost to blood cancers, celebrate survivors and support people and families currently going through treatment.

The team originally set a fundraising goal of $5,000 and has already surpassed that mark, with more than $5,100 raised toward blood cancer research and support.

For Jaxon’s family, the message is simple: when people ask how they can help, supporting continued research into blood cancers is one meaningful way to make a difference.

The roller hockey community has always been built on more than what happens between the boards. It’s built on teammates, coaches, families and communities showing up for one another.

Now is an opportunity for our community to show up for one of our own.
